Everything You Need To Learn Armenian

The Armenian language is spoken by an estimated 6 million people, and it’s the official language of the Republic of Armenia. It’s also an official minority language in several countries, where it is spoken by a much smaller population.

If you’ve chosen to study Armenian, you’re probably already aware of the challenges in finding legitimate, dependable learning materials. Unlike some of the other languages in the Caucasus region, there isn’t a large community of foreigners interested in learning Armenian.

That’s somewhat changing with the recent rise of online language learning resources, but there’s still a dearth of quality Armenian learning materials readily available.

This list, while still growing, is a short one. You will, however, be able to find enough here to help you become comfortable with the Armenian language.

Armenian Language Learning Books

Without an easily accessible Armenian course, in-person or digital, your only option is to use Armenian study books. This is a great way to learn the language, vocabulary, structure and grammar. These are all important things when learning a language, so you’ll want to have a couple of books on hand.

A good, concise Armenian dictionary should also be in your arsenal, as you’ll constantly find yourself needing to look up words.

Armenian uses its own alphabet/writing system, and in order to progress in your studies, you’ll want to learn both how to read and write in the Armenian alphabet. You’ll find some great Armenian workbooks on this list.

Armenian Children’s Books

Children’s books are one of the best ways to build upon and practice your language skills, and Armenian children’s books are no exception. These books are written at an easy reading level, and introduce you to basic, simple vocabulary and grammar in a natural way, making them perfect for beginner Armenian learners.
