LH Shop Tycoon – A tycoon flashcard game for language learners

Here at Language Hobo, we’re always (and I mean always) looking for ways to inject some “pizzazz” into language learning. That is, we wanna make the process fun. Because, as we’ve said a dozen times on this here site, you’re more likely to retain what you learn whilst having fun than you are if you’re bored out of your mind.

Common sense, I know.

Anyway, that’s why we’ve been hard at work putting together a game we think you’ll like and, most importantly, find quite useful. It’s a new spin on the old flashcard method of learning vocabulary.

May I present to you LH Shop Tycoon. It’s the first tycoon game (that we know of) designed specifically for language learners.

So how does the game work?

Your goal is to sell, sell, sell, and become a shopping tycoon. But for that, you’ll need stock, and lots of it. How do you obtain this stock?

Well, that’s where the flashcard mini-game comes in.

Those pesky customers wanna test your language skills before they buy. Each one will fire off an English word, and you’ll have to choose the right translation in your target language. But be warned, you’re on the clock. Take too long, they’ll lose patience and leave without spending a penny.

Get it right, however, and you’ll earn that much-needed moolah to buy more stock and pay for marketing and upgrades.
