Yiddish is a Germanic language and a mixture of German, Slavic, and other languages that were spoken by Ashkenazi Jews in Europe at the time of its creation. Though Yiddish uses a similar alphabet to the Hebrew one, the two languages are not similar. There are over 1.5 million speakers.
