Luganda is one of the official languages of Uganda, spoken by about 15 million people. It’s in the Niger-Congo family of languages, which includes Swahili.
Luganda belongs to the Bantu branch of this language family. As such, it shares many linguistic similarities with other Bantu languages, such as Kikuyu and Ndebele.
Luganda, like many other Bantu languages, is tonal. That means the same word can have different meanings depending on which tone the speaker uses.
